After Trump declared on Friday that he would withdraw from the U.N., saying the organization has failed to address the world’s problems, spokeswoman Stephane Dujarric said the U.N. is already looking into possible dates and venues for the session.

U.N. officials had suggested that the Sept. 24-Oct. 7 gathering in New York could be in jeopardy.

The U.N. General Assembly, which has taken place every September since the end of World War II, includes the full membership of the 193 U.N. member states.

Dujarric said “we will do everything we can to work with the United States to ensure that the General Assembly remains as open as possible.”

He said the secretary-general and his staff “continue to engage with the president’s team and the White House.”

“We are currently working to identify dates and venues that would be conducive to hosting an event that would include as many as possible states,” he said.

U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric said there were some options being explored by the U.N. for the September General Assembly session.

“Obviously the General Assembly is up for grabs,” Dujarric said in his daily briefing. “They could be held in any number of cities in any number of different formats.”
