AutoCAD Free Download For Windows (Updated 2022)

AutoCAD was released in 1982 as a desktop app running on Apple II, Commodore 64, IBM PC, and IBM-compatible microcomputers. The AutoCAD package was originally created in 1982 as part of AutoLISP, a programming language designed specifically for use with the BASIC of the Apple II computer. In 1986, Autodesk created a Macintosh version of the product to compete with the widely used CATIA product. AutoCAD was ported to Windows in 1991. The latest AutoCAD is version 2017.

According to Autodesk, the foundation of AutoCAD is a user interface (UI) that is simple, efficient, and productive. Autodesk has defined several levels of CAD program users:

Mechanical: Mechanical designers that use CAD to create conceptual designs and specifications.
Draftsman: Draftsmen use CAD to create detailed drawings for equipment.
Architect: Architects and construction designers use CAD to create conceptual designs and specifications, including 3D models.
Engineers: Engineers use CAD to model and analyze their designs, including 3D models.

Other names

There have been several variations of the CAD name:

2D Drafting & Design: First released in 1982, this version was specifically designed for use in the 2D drafting and design environment and featured the term “drafting” in the name. The “2D” in the name was later dropped.
Drafting & Design: AutoCAD 7, released in 1986, retained the term “drafting” in the name. AutoCAD for Windows continued to be called CAD, but was released in 1992 as AutoCAD for Windows. In 2003, AutoCAD software underwent a major rewrite to become AutoCAD LT, retaining the title AutoCAD, but the term “Lite” was added. Since that time, the software was renamed again in 2012 to AutoCAD WS, meaning “Web Suite”. The software is now called AutoCAD WS and it is no longer exclusively available as a desktop software application.

Pro, Plus, and Premium editions

AutoCAD LT is a version of AutoCAD that runs on Windows-based computers without requiring the purchase of the full AutoCAD package. AutoCAD LT can run directly off a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, which makes it the most popular version. It allows users to only pay for

Autodesk Exchange is a platform that allows developers to build AutoCAD extensions for their own market place. Also, third-party developers use Autodesk Exchange to publish their applications to Autodesk’s application store.

Design-time support includes:

integrated “CategoryTree” tooltips
creation of TableDefs
AutoLISP support
XML, Web, and Dynamic Web Service APIs

AutoCAD is delivered to users via software distribution platforms. In some cases, a specific operating system component may be required to make the AutoCAD application work. In other cases, the application is packaged so that it does not require additional software components.

The following should work on most Python implementations:

There is a lack of understanding of how endocrine disruptors such as pharmaceuticals and pesticides act to disrupt the immune system. The proposed research will develop novel, high-throughput tools to screen chemicals to evaluate their effects on the immune system. We will determine whether a combination of cell- and chemical-based assays is required

Automatic Configuration
Automatic configuration is a feature that will automatically
create the look of your 3D model based on a template (stored
in the database) that you can select from the list. In other
words, you can just specify an origin and scale and the 3D
model will be automatically configured for you.

If you wish to use automatic configuration you have to create
the initial template first. You have to download the template
in.aif format (get it here, AIF = ‘Autodesk AutoCAD image file’

You have to create an Autocad file named “Example.acad”.
Open this file with Autodesk Autocad.

Then choose File -> Save template. Give it a name such as
“Example”. Be sure to use a space between the name of the
template and the extension. You may want to store the file
in a different directory from the one where you keep your
*.aif files.

Now you can use the “Add (or duplicate) an object” option to
create a new file from the template. You will need to choose
“From file”. Name the new file “Example.acad”. Set the
filename to “Example.aif” and the location to the same place
where the original “.aif” file is. Set the current project
type to “Autodesk” if it is not already set to this. (If you
already have this project type set it is no longer needed.)
Set the current layer to the active layer.

Now you can use the “Save as template” option to save the new
“.aif” file to a new template. Be sure to choose “Save” in
the bottom left corner. The template filename will automatically
be set to “Example.acad”. This is just a temporary name that
you can change later.

The “Save as template” option will also show you which layers
are used in the template and which layers are being used in
the current project.

If you want to make a “merge” template, see:

If you do not wish to use automatic configuration, use the

Add, Edit, and Reorder Annotations:

Revisit your notes, diagrams, and dimensions with easy in-line annotation tools. Keep your latest annotations in view, even when the original drawing is closed. Add or remove annotations and quickly change their order or their visibility. (video: 1:17 min.)

Visible 3D models:

Keep 3D models within your drawings that provide additional information, such as materials and finish, over and above what you see in the traditional viewport.

Updated Viewport and 3D Panning:

View the drawing more quickly and easily by zooming in and out, panning and rotating within the model. You can also scroll the 3D view and swap between views. (video: 1:26 min.)

Linear Scale:

Scale a drawing to a specific unit of measurement, such as feet or miles, with the new Linear Scale tools. Create geometric and dimensional shapes from existing objects, place objects on the drawing canvas, or use the drawing’s paper space to simply set a length. (video: 1:37 min.)

Enhanced PDF Editing Tools:

Convert to PDF quickly and easily. In addition to the new native PDF formats, you can open, edit, and save a PDF drawing within AutoCAD from other programs. All of the PDF editing features you know and love are back. (video: 1:25 min.)

Annotative Web Links and Annotative Web Page Generator:

Share your drawing online without having to export it to a file first. Using an annotative web link, you can quickly set your drawing to view online. Once online, you can share annotative views with other viewers. You can also create an annotative web page to provide more information about your drawings. (video: 1:11 min.)

Find & Replace:

Search for and replace objects within AutoCAD drawings with ease. Replace multiple instances of an object with one keystroke. (video: 1:15 min.)

Use Cross-Reference to quickly find a section and zoom in to it. You can then explore related commands, add and annotate to the section, and export it back to the drawing. (video: 1:20 min.)
