Old video cameras sometimes have wrong color-balance, which causes a little bit colored video recordings. The image sometimes is a bit bluish, sometimes has pink color. This effect is extremely annoying at a digitally archived recording, but it can be compensated by a digital color equalizer filter.
The Color Equalizer was designed to be a simple, robust VirtualDub filter which has an easy-to-use interface. This filter can amplify separately the red, green and blue components of the images and can shift them separately with an offset value. The transformation can be seen in the following equation: C=A*C+O, where C, A and O are the color (red, green or blue), amplification and offset values respectively.
During the equalizing process, the transformed color values are taken from a look-up table. This method provides good speed. The look-up table is computed at the filter initialization process with 32-bit fixed point integer arithmetic. This computation method does not affect the accuracy of the LUT.
The transformation process has a saturated characteristics: if a transformed color value is out from the range of 0-255, then the transformed value will be 0 or 255.
The compiler program was tuned for speed and for Pentium class computers. The compiled DLL unfortunately does not contain MMX optimization.
This v1.1 version of the program contains already a preview window and a reset button.

– The look-up table is pre-calculated and used for the rest of the equalizing process.
– The equalizing process is stopped as soon as the threshold value exceeds the amplitude value. The threshold is always calculated from the Amplitude lookup table.
– On the same table a compensation lookup table is pre-calculated.

– A compensation value can be applied on the table, but this value must be lower than the amplitude value, otherwise the equalizing process will keep going.

– If the offset is more than the compensation value, then the zero value will be applied on the color values, and the amplitude value will be applied on the offset value.
– If the offset is less than the compensation value, then the offset value will be subtracted from the color values and the compensation value will be added to the amplitude value.
– If the offset is lower than zero, the color values will be replaced by the offset value.
– The bigger offset value, the more the color values will be saturated.
– The compensation table is pre-calculated and there is a look-up table, for detecting if the current color value is out of the range of 0-255 or not. This detection is based on the magnitude of the current color value and the saturation of the pixel.

This plugin transforms the color of the image.
1. If a color value is out of the range of 0 to 255, the color will be saturated.
2. The transformed color is applied to the image or pixel colors will be changed.

When you start the Color Equalizer program and the program has started, there is the caption: Press the up-key to enter a parameter file; or press the right-key to show the look-up table preview window.
The look-up table is divided into a set of color step size.The first step size is 0.0, the step size always is 0.0, 0.1 or 0.2 (for example).
To change a step size value:
– press and hold the up-key on the keyboard and press the down-key
– select a step size with the cursor keys
– press the up-key to lock the value
When you have changed the step size, press the right-key and a look-up table window will appear, which displays the previous image’s colors as a look-up table which has the changed step size.
To change the presentation value:
– Press and hold the up-key on the keyboard and press the right-key
– select a color presentation value with the cursor keys
– Press the up-key to lock the value
When you have changed the presentation value, press the right-key and a look-up table window will appear, which displays the previous image’s colors as a look-up table which has the changed presentation value.
Input files are not needed when you use the ModEdit program, when you use the Color Equalizer program.
