There are plenty of productivity boosters available on the Internet but most of them refer to reaching specific files or launching certain applications easily, regardless of the current location.
Search as you type
Listary is a search tool that increases the functionality of the file manager included in Windows. It seems invisible to the user but a look in the system tray area shows that it is running and ready for action.
Its purpose is to quickly reach any file on the disk by simply starting to type in the explorer window for a file name. As soon as you start typing Listary automatically rules out the irrelevant results thinning the list until it determines exactly the searched file.
One of the best parts is that it does not matter the location where you start typing or where the target file resides, Listary finds it. Obviously, this way you can also launch applications.
The functionality of the product is not restricted to launching files and programs as the developer included the possibility to perform a list of actions that are most frequently required by users.
As such, once a file is selected it can be copied, cut or opened with a specific program. Additional actions include copying the path or the entire folder to the clipboard or move it to a different location.
Listary moves very fast and at the first run it launches a brief tutorial that explains exactly how it works. Working with requires just typing in the explorer window the name of the file you want to reach. Results are displayed as you type.
Navigating the files using Listary can be done not only in Windows’ file browser but also in alternatives from other developers, such as Total Commander or Xyplorer and it also works straight from the desktop.

Listary 3.33 [Win/Mac]

It can be quite difficult to copy data between computers or devices running on different operating systems (Windows/Mac).
There are many program variations, each designed to complete a specific task. The easy way is to use an optical drive or a USB thumb drive for data transfer. However, they are limited to the platform the drive is intended for and are easily lost.
Another option is to use remote desktop connection software, however, it requires a paid subscription.
The fastest way is to use a different PC running the same operating system, transfer the files and then copy them to the target computer using a variety of programs. A simple copy and paste may not work without some tweaking.
As such, there are many free file transfer programs out there. Some of them have a broad scope while others are restricted to a certain file or folder size.
The free file transfer software Proxifier includes many features but its most appealing is the simplicity of the interface. It does not require any authentication procedure and its functionality is divided into several tabs.
The first tab allows you to easily create a new connection which can then be used by the software to transfer files and folders.
Once a connection is created and logged in, the program’s user interface is simplified and the next tab is displayed where you can select the files or folders that need to be transferred.
The file or folder selection step needs to be done only once as all files are then uploaded to the destination on the remote PC.
The final tab provides you with the option to share any type of remote folder and/or create another connection.
Proxifier is not just a simple file transfer tool, it is a universal remote desktop connection software that can work with the same remote PC.
Proxifier may require some extra steps for the remote PC to connect back to the source PC but other than that it is both secure and functional.

One of the best productivity tools for Mac OS X is LaunchBar – a full-featured search bar designed to help you easily find files, launch apps and open Web sites.
Main features
The application works as a keyboard and mouse replacement, as it is activated using both the keyboard and the mouse. As such, the tool is already ready to be fully exploited, as you can simply type the app or file you want to open and enter when you type the name of a file.
When you start typing the LaunchBar window list the items on your computer that can be opened or launched. The highlighted ones are the first choices that appeared, which means that you can select them by tapping the mouse in the right place.
On the other side of the window, you can see the list of recently opened apps and the last URL you have typed.
Next to the currently selected item, there is the keyboard shortcut that LaunchBar has detected: for instance, F4 for Go, “View” for “View > As List” and ⌘A for “File > New Folder”.
Once selected, the item can be opened in the default program for that type of file, apps, Web sites and so on, or through the Web browser.
If you want to remove the item from the list, just hit the “X” key located at the right of the item’s name.
If you open the application via the dock, you can even use the mouse to select and launch items.
You can also use the “⌘T” keyboard shortcut for “Text > Open”, the “⌘X” shortcut for “Images > Open” and the “⌘L” shortcut for “Video > Open”.
The “⌘⇧⌘⌘” keyboard shortcut launches the Finder.

Listary Video Guide

Recently we at Appzoom wrote an article about Microsoft’s Windows 7 popularity and for some unknown reasons the title of the article was changed to “What Is the Best Windows 7 Image?” instead of its true name: “How to Best Backup Your Windows 7 PC?” If you know that that article came out about a year ago you know that the question was asked through two different times in some parts of the web, and the internet seems to be full of comments and opinions on the topic.

That said, the question seems to be a bit of a non-issue. Whether or not there is a unique “best” backup image file for Windows 7 is irrelevant to the point it was made in the first place; i.e. how to best back up your PC and where to find it. If you’re interested in how to best back up your PC or how to find “the best Windows 7 Image”, then keep reading.

The PC-Clone

When an operating system manufacturer releases a new version, the creation of a restore image is always one of the first actions. Why? Because that computer becomes a sort of a “test” environment, and you can access all the features of the new version without installing all of the software and data that you have in use on the computer itself.

You could also think of it as a “developers” computer. An image lets them test the behavior of the operating system on a computer without having to save an endless amount of data on the external hard disk.

The previously mentioned article was about how to best backup a Windows 7 PC and the first thing you need to do is grab a restore image, then use that one to create a backup.

Now, the following questions are non-issues:

What is the best Windows 7 restore image for best backups?

Where can I get the “best” image file?

There is no such thing as the “best Windows 7 image”, simply because there are still Windows 7 computers that require an image and Windows 7 computers that do not
