What’s New
Version 2.0.3:
– Fixed issue where :hover images on some devices would not work.
– Updated the Wikipedia links in the :hover images section to point to the full article.
– Reduced the size of the images used in the :hover images section to keep the file size at a reasonable level.
– Minor bug fixes and tweaks.
Version 2.0.2:
– Added an option to choose only the headlines to display when it’s first started up. This will let you avoid having images in the first couple of headlines showing up on startup.
Version 2.0.1:
– Fixed what was thought to be a bug in the :hover images section. The images don’t load any more.
– Added the option to sort the headlines by the number of times they’ve been ‘liked’ and shared on Facebook, Twitter, etc.
– Minor bug fixes and tweaks.
Version 2.0:
This version brings the application up to date with the latest versions of OS X, Safari and Snackr.com.
– There are now two sections for the headlines: :hover and :background. The :hover section shows only the headlines that you can click on to open the full item, and the :background section shows the full item. This should improve the performance when you are reading the headlines. If you don’t like the :hover items, the :background items can be easily turned off.
– For the :hover items, the link text at the bottom now says exactly what the linked article is about. It doesn’t link to the full article anymore.
– For the :hover items

What’s New In Snackr?

The Short Version:
This is the [ok]nit[/ok]est and [ok]cutest[/ok]est news application, and one of the best, [ok]and[/ok]most, [ok]free[/ok] newsreaders I’ve ever seen. No fluff, but a lot of content and settings.
The Longer Version:
It’s a news ticker that moves your window from one article to the next, and it shows you the article’s headline, in smaller form and the first paragraph, and a link to the article. It looks like this:
If you click on the headline, a new window will open and show the rest of the article to you, and when you want to see something else, you just scroll down a little and click on a new link. I think this is why I like it so much: It’s simple, does exactly what it’s supposed to do, and never tries to do too many things. The headlines and links aren’t arranged in a weird order or stacked on top of each other, and the whole thing looks simple, easy, and efficient.
So why do I love Snackr? Because it’s simple and powerful and not bloated, and it’s free and easy to install.
Pros:
+ Feeds are easy to import.
+ Integrated into Firefox with Feed Reader and in Safari.
+ Easy, intuitive user interface.
+ Handles almost any RSS feed.
+ No ads, no “press this button to share this link” crap.
+ Built-in newsgroups work as advertised.
+ Xmarks integration.
+ Many add-ons.
+ Slideshow (supports video, too).
+ A friendly and accessible application.
+ Windows XP, Vista, 7, and Firefox.
Cons:
– Print options are limited.
– It’s a bit slow when opening new articles.
– The “main” list displays only the first 3 headlines of articles, but you can sort the list by most recent or oldest articles.
