Youth Programs

CASE

Through our youth-centered approach, CASE offers a variety of programs for middle schoolers and high schoolers.

Our Youth Services department works with the youth to develop solutions to their challenges. Often working within their individual school and community, we offer a variety of specialized and creative programs, as well as a formal mentoring program with CASE.

At CASE, our Youth Services programs are designed for middle school students and high school students in grades 6-12, although we also work with younger students and assist their parents in establishing a youth-centered environment at home.

Youth Services Programs

CASE offers a variety of programs designed to challenge and develop the young person’s intellectual and social abilities, along with other skills that will help them in adulthood and life. CASE classes consist of things such as math, history, and English. There are also technology classes, project-based learning, academic coaching, life skills, and career exploration.

CASE also offers a wide range of opportunities for leaders and alumni to be involved. Past alumni include authors and writers, professional athletes, Hollywood starlets, and business owners.

Individualized Counseling Program

This program begins for middle school students at CASE. The unique component of this program is that the counselor develops a strong relationship with a middle school-aged client. Many youth need a professional counselor to aid in making academic decisions and life-changing decisions. CASE’s Parent Education Services can refer parents in the community who are interested in learning about the Individualized Counseling Program.

Why can I not replace a capacitor with a resistor?

When I was in high school physics, I was taught that, in the context of a capacitor, the equation $v_C=i_C \times t_C$ would suffice to describe the behavior of a capacitor. I was also taught that this equation held for a capacitor and for a resistor, and for a resistor and a capacitor. I was told that this would hold for other combinations of a capacitor and a resistor, too.
However, after finding these equations for myself, I see that there are non-trivial differences between the behaviors of a capacitor and a resistor. For one thing, they have different resistances: a resistor has $\mathrm{R}=\dfrac{1}{\mathrm{i_C}}$ whereas a capacitor has $\mathrm{C}=\dfrac{1}{\mathrm{i_C}}$.
Can someone explain why I cannot replace a capacitor with a resistor, or vice-versa, when they have the same $\mathrm{R}$?

Both of the equations are true in general.
The specific equation you have quoted is only true for a capacitor that behaves like a capacitor; i.e., it behaves like a capacitor in the reactive part of the frequency domain and like a resistor in the resistive part. For a capacitor, the resistor only helps in the resistive part; for a capacitor, the resistor only helps in the reactive part. Thus the equation you have is only true if you have capacitance + resistor or capacitance + resistor.
A resistor and a capacitor, however, have nothing to do with the resistor/capacitor equation – they have their own equations that are independent of that.
If you think about it, it makes sense because a capacitor (in the passive part of the frequency domain) is about constant \$Z\$ or \$\alpha\$ and a resistor is about constant \$R\$.
If you think about it, there isn’t really any point in this equation for a capacitor (even if it is \$Z\$). This is because when you are integrating to get the voltage over time or current over time, the \$\omega\
