The Problem:
All Tablet Pc’s have a digitizer, the part of the tablet that tracks the pen input using some sort of stylus. If a user has a tablet that contains a Wacom digitizer, a user must install the “penabled” driver to enable pressure sensitivity in most drawig applications that support it.
The problem? The Wacom driver competes with Microsoft’s “tabtip.exe” tablet driver, and the result is horribly slow and laggy response times in all of these drawing apps! A total nightmare for most graphic artists who count on this feature! In fact, this lag is noticable even when dragging any type of window, or using firefox!
The Solution:
An early solution I had dreamed up, was to play with the priority settings of tabtip.exe, whenever using a drawing appliation, in order to smooth things out. However, this usually had the negative effect, of severely crippling the smoothness of the built in handwriting recognition panel, (the TIP) unless I manually went in and adjusted the priority of tabtip.exe back to normal.
Enter AutoHotKey. AutoHotKey is an amazing application, that can control almost any aspect of your PC with an easy to learn scripting language. It was a natural to try with my meager understanding of programming, to try and create something that did all of this automatically, taming the tabtip once and for all! After hacking away on my own bits of semi working, broken code, I signed up at the autohotkey forums, and started my plea for help.
When Tabtip-Tamer.exe is run, it runs, and sits active in the system tray waiting for the TIP to come into focus. When it does, the process priority of tabtip.exe is lowered to normal status, but at all other times, it’s process is set to HIGH, smoothing out pen input operations. Really, this program should be run, each time your tablet starts!

TabTip-Tamer is an AutoHotKey program that automatically lowers the priority of tabtip.exe whenever the application is open, so you can use programs like Wacom’s pressure sensitive pen driver, without having to constantly modify the priority! Also included is a hotkey key that, when pressed, closes the TIP, and returns the program priority to high.
Features:
It works in all applications, where a mouse is used to control the tablet, including Microsoft Office, and Windows Explorer! It will also work in all Windows Live Messenger/Skype chat clients, without the need for you to install any special drivers!
It even works in “drawing” programs that use the pen, to lower the sensitivity (i.e., the pressure used to draw) by default, and raise it again when NOT drawing. Also included, is a hotkey key, that when pressed, closes the TIP, and returns the program priority to high.
AutoHotKey’s scripting language makes it very easy to quickly script whatever you want, for any number of applications!
Use the included “Create a.ahk” file to create your own hotkey key.

The Kit & Training:
TabTip-Tamer was created so you can use it free of charge, in your own computer at home. If you’d like to have your own personal kit of the same program, but loaded up with a prerecorded collection of scripts to do more, or a different set of scripts to perform different actions, simply order a kit from the TabTip-Tamer support site.
If you’d like to use one of the prerecorded collections for personal, free use, simply download the resource/scripts from the TabTip-Tamer support site, or add your own scripts to your kit on your own computer!
Main Window Settings:
i. IMAGE – (Default) – Change the image displayed in the main window to the image or folder containing the scripts.
ii. HOTKEY KEY – (Default) – Set a hotkey key to close the tabtip.exe, and return the program priority back to high. Pressing the hotkey key will also shut the application down, and return the program priority back to high.

The User interface of this program is not the easiest thing to get to grips with, but after some studying in the forums, I think I got it right. Some examples of the parameters include a) to lower the priority of tabtip.exe, and how to enable pressure sensitivity for a graphic app. b) to set the priority of tabtip.exe to HIGH, even when in use!

The Script:

Tabtip-Tamer.exe should be started each time the tablet is started. The worst scenario is that you start the tablet and tabtip.exe is in HIGH priority status, which means nothing is working well. Pressing the “TabTip Tamer/Artists Choice” button should automatically fix it.

a) To lower the priority of tabtip.exe from the highest priority to the recommended default for tabtip.
• Enable pressure sensitivity in graphic applications, for the mouse.
• Enable pressure sensitivity in graphic applications, for the tablet.
Note: Set your priority level to not very HIGH; the default HIGH is OK for most tablet users. There are other things to consider, but this should get you close to what you want.
